About Us
We are a very small part-time print shop in
Central PA specializing in printing scratch pads. Our products can be seen at
local craft shows and flea markets. The business was started by my parents who
operated a stand at the Rt. 15 Flea Market in Lewisburg, PA for 10+ years leaving the
flea market at the end of 2000. They also traveled to many different craft
shows throughout central PA. Including shows in Gratz, Hegins, Columbia,
Danville, Williamsport, Clinton County, Laporte, Westfield and many others. They
finally retired from everything at the end of 2001.
In the spring of 2002, after
hearing my parents and other vendors talking about how people missed the scratch
pad people, my wife and discussed starting up the business again. Although we
both work full time jobs, we decided to give it a shot. The response to our
return has been overwhelming. The operators of the various craft shows that my
parents attended have been very kind in supporting us and working us back into
their shows. They all have welcomed us with open arms which we appreciate very
much. If you go to our news page, you will find a schedule of our shows. You
will see that we have a busy schedule. To you, our customers, we also give you a
very big thank-you for supporting us in our return.
Photography initially was not a part of the business. I have always been
interested in photography but sort of put my interest on hold while our two
daughters were growing up.The seed for the photo side of Roth Scratchpads was
planted in 2004 while at a local craft show. I met a photographer at that show
who had photos of wolves. I have always been fascinated by wolves and asked him
where he had taken the photos. He told me that they were shot at The Lakota Wolf
Preserve in Columbia, NJ. I mentioned something to our younger daughter about
this since she was going to college only about 15 miles from the preserve.
Her comment was "Don't you remember, I told you about that when I first
started to college, that it was close by. This gave a little fertilizer to the
seed. I decreed that we had to visit there. We did this while we were moving her
out of her apartment at college the week before graduation. We visited the
preserve for their morning wolf watch. After about an hour and a half talk about
the wolves and a few rolls of film, the seed was geminated. Especially when I
found out that they offer photo shoots where you can take photos of the wolves
without a chain link fence obstructing your photos as it does when you take
photos during the wolf watch. In December of 2005 with 10" of snow on the
ground, I had my day with the wolves. Actually it was only about two hours. So
after a two hour photo shoot and eleven rolls of 40 exposure film, the photo
side of Roth Scratchpads was born. You can view the entire wolf photo shoot at
